Eagles practice for the final time before Saturday's Spring Game
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College Football held its 14th and final spring practice on Thursday morning at Fish Field House prior to Saturday's annual Jay McGillis Memorial Spring Game, which begins at 11 a.m. at Alumni Stadium on ACC Network.Â
First Track Heard During Team Flex:Â "Over The Top" (Smiley Feat. Drake)
Â
Situational: The offense got to work at its own 25-yard line with 50 seconds on the clock and one timeout, trailing by three at the end of the second quarter. Phil Jurkovec moved the sticks immediately with a 16-yard completion to Lewis Bond, who found space between zones of the defense's cover formation. Tight end George Takacs added a nine-yard reception over the middle, which led to a timeout with 30 seconds left. On 3rd-and-1, Donovan Ezeiruaku exploded off the edge for a sack, and a play later the defense forced a turnover on downs.
Quick Series: In short three-play series, the first and second team offense alternated at a fast pace in the second offense vs. defense team period of the day. Jurkovec and the one's got off to a fast start with a deep catch-and-run down the left sideline to Jaden Williams. The Jurkovec-to-Williams connection shined again in their second series as the receiver got open at midfield, turned and was off to the races for a 75-yard score past the secondary. Both Jurkovec and Emmett Morehead found success to their tight ends with completions to Takacs and Spencer Witter. Ezeiruaku picked up his second sack to close out the period.
Red Zone: A stumbling Jaelen Gill got the offense moving on its first opportunity with a jet sweep into the secondary. The drive ended with a pick in the end zone by CJ Burton, who also started practice with a pass breakup on the first series of the session. Running back Xavier Coleman showed off why his Instagram handle is "_xtooshifty" as he cut and spun through the defense on the first play of the drive. The two's then got into the end zone and a Morehead completion to Taji Johnson set up 1st-and-goal at the five. Morehead then lofted a ball to the left corner for Witter to go up and high-point the ball for six. Coleman, playing with the one's, converted a 3rd-and-2 by staying on his feet with his fingers on the turf, setting up 1st-and-goal and an eventual touchdown.
