Eagles Host Senior Night, Close Regular Season Against No. 9 UMass

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College and No. 9 UMass close the regular season this weekend with a home-and-home series, beginning on Friday night at Kelley Rink at 7 p.m. on NESN. The series concludes on Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. at the Mullins Center on NESNplus. Massachusetts is the last Hockey East school that BC has yet to face this season.
SENIOR NIGHT
• Boston College will honor seniors Marc McLaughlin, Patrick Giles, Jack McBain, Jack St. Ivany and Casey Carreau, graduate students Eric Dop, Brandon Kruse, Sam Sternschein and Justin Wells, and senior manager Ryan Keator prior to their final regular season home game on Friday night
• The five seniors in the Class of 2022 have played a pivotal role in helping the Eagles win two Hockey East regular season titles with nearly 70 total victories in the last four years
• The senior class has combined for 58 of the team's 102 goals this season (57%)
PLAYOFF PICTURE
• Boston College will close out the regular season this weekend against first-place UMass
• The Eagles are eighth in the league standings, one point ahead of UNH in ninth
• Boston College and New Hampshire are locked to face one another in the Hockey East Opening Round, which is scheduled for Wednesday, March 9
• If the standings hold this weekend, BC would host UNH at Conte Forum next week
• UNH holds the tiebreaker on BC after sweeping a home-and-home in mid-January
SERIES HISTORY
• Boston College leads the all-time series with UMass 68-17-3, including a 32-8-1 head-to-head advantage dating back to 2008, heading into the 89th all-time meeting in series history
• Prior to an overtime loss to UMass on Feb. 26, 2021, the Eagles had won each of the previous four meetings and five of the previous six overall
• Boston College beat Massachusetts 4-3 at home on opening night of last season in late November and followed with a 6-3 victory at the Mullins Center the next night
• UMass has won three of the last four meetings at Kelley Rink, which followed a 10-game winless streak in Chestnut Hill that dated back to 2013
BATTLE OF COMM AVE
• Drew Helleson blasted a left wing one-timer from Marc McLaughlin with 5:20 left in regulation and BC edged No. 13 Boston University 3-1 in the 287th Battle of Comm Ave last Sunday
• Eric Dop posted a season-high 42 saves in the victory, while McLaughlin and Brandon Kruse each collected a pair of assists
• BC extended its home unbeaten streak against the Terriers to four games (3-0-1)
• Senior Jack McBain netted his third goal of the weekend to knot the score at 1-1 late in the second, and classmate Patrick Giles sealed the points with an empty-netter in the closing seconds

• Boston College's five-member senior class has accounted for 106 of the Eagles' 281 points (38%)
• All three players who wear letters Marc McLaughlin (2nd), Jack McBain (5th) and Patrick Giles (T-7th) rank top-10 in Hockey East in goals scored with 48 goals combined
• BC is the only Hockey East school with three players ranked among the top-10
• Last Saturday was the first time that Boston College has had all five of its senior skaters active at the same time since New Year's Eve
BRING BACK BAINER
• Prior to last weekend, Jack McBain had not played for the Eagles since New Year's due to injury and his selection to Team Canada for the Olympic Games
• Before the injury, McBain led Hockey East in points per game with 24 points in 18 games
• McBain scored three goals last weekend against BU in his return to the lineup and currently ranks second in Hockey East in points per game behind UMass senior Bobby Trivigno
• The Toronto native has a point in 16 of his 20 games this season with nine multi-point games
• McBain has more than doubled his previous career-high in goals (6) with 16
OUR CAPTAIN
• Marc McLaughlin ranks second in Hockey East and fifth nationally in goals this season with a career-high 19 to lead the team
• The Eagles' senior captain is also 11th in the country with a team-high eight power play goals and ranks top-25 in the nation in faceoffs won
• McLaughlin's next goal would make him BC's first 20-goal scorer since David Cotton in 2018-19
• After netting nine goals in the first 73 games of his career, McLaughlin has exploded for 29 goals in his last 52 contests; he has scored in 11 of his last 20 games
PATTY WAGON
• Senior Patrick Giles is having a career season in almost every category for the Eagles
• Giles entered the year with seven career goals but has already scored 13 times this season, which ranks seventh in Hockey East and includes his first two collegiate multi-goal games
• He has established a new career-high with 19 points and 79 shots on goal
• Nine of Giles' 13 goals have come in league play
IVE GOT A GUY
• Jack St. Ivany has been one of the best all-around defensemen in college hockey this season
• He sits seventh among Hockey East defensemen in points per game
• The Hobey Baker nominee has posted career-highs this season with 18 assists and 22 points, eclipsing his career-high of 16 points as a sophomore at Yale in 2019-20
• The senior has at least one point in 17 of his 32 contests this season

• Casey Carreau has posted career-highs in every major category this season
• The senior has six goals and 11 points, all of which have come in his last 23 games
• He scored twice against UConn last month for his first collegiate multi-goal game
