Marice Aguiar Takes No. 1 Singles as Eagles Fall to Wake Forest

Eagles will remain at home next weekend against Notre Dame and Louisville
WEYMOUTH, Mass. -- Following the hard-fought match against the No. 2 NC State Wolfpack on Friday night, the Eagles fell to No. 23 Wake Forest, 6-1 on Sunday afternoon. In the number one singles spot, Marice Aguiar, who along with Laura Lopez, defeated the No. 11 doubles team in the country on Friday, earned a singles win against the Demon Deacons with a 6-4, 0-6, 1-0 victory to put BC on the board. Lopez took her opponent to the third set but ultimately fell 1-6, 6-1, 6-7.Â
"We played hard but came up short. Wake Forest is a strong team and we need to be better at capitalizing on the opportunities we create," said head coach Nigel Bentley. "Maria played a solid match and it was nice to win at the #1 spot. We played without a key player today and overall, I think our team has been working very hard and has greatly improved. We now need to recharge and get ready for Notre Dame next week."
The Eagles will remain at home next weekend with two more matches against Notre Dame and Louisville on Friday and Sunday in Weymouth.Â
