Will Face Columbia in Third Round
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College women's basketball team advanced to the third round of the WNIT with a dominating 94-68 win over Quinnipiac on Monday evening at Conte Forum.Â
The Eagles will travel to New York for a 7 p.m. showdown on Thursday night against Columbia in the regional semifinal at Levien Gymnasium.Â
BC is 21-11 on the season, while the 21 wins match the most victories since the 2007-08 season and are the most since 2002-03. QU's season ends at 21-12.Â
The offense was on full display as the 94 points set a new single-game scoring record in a postseason game by a BC team. Boston College shot 53 percent from the field and hit eight trifectas.Â
Taylor Soule dominated on both ends of the floor with a career-high 33 points on a stellar 14-of-18 shooting and tied a personal-high with 16 rebounds. She also added three steals and three assists.Â
Cameron Swartz got back to her scoring ways with 20 points and corralled eight rebounds. Marnelle Garraud rounded out the leading scorers with 13 points, hitting three of her five field goals from 3-point range.Â
The Eagles held their foe to just three field goals and 27 percent shooting in the opening period, including a 3:14 scoring drought that helped BC turn a two-point lead into 11. Kaylah Ivey's 3-pointer at the buzzer made it a 20-9 game going into the second.Â
Both offenses shot over 60 percent in the second quarter, but the Eagles still went into the half with a 14-point lead thanks to back-to-back trifectas by Swartz and Makayla Dickens in 33 seconds.Â
Quinnipiac made things interesting by slicing the deficit to 65-55. The Eagles responded by putting together a 10-2 surge from the end of the third into the fourth to pull away for their 15th home win of the season.Â
