BC Baseball Swept at No. 19 Virginia

Trailing by as many as seven runs through four innings, BC twice cut the deficit to three; even getting the tying run to the plate in the sixth. UVA had an answer each time with a three-run sixth and five-run eighth.
Cavaliers left fielder Alex Tappen led the offense with six runs driven in on a 4-for-4 day with a home run and three runs scored. Third baseman Jake Gelof added three RBI in a 4-for-4 performance with a home run and four runs.
Junior second baseman Luke Gold (Ballston, N.Y.) and sophomore right fielder Cameron Leary (Bethpage, N.Y.) each homered for the Eagles. Gold went 2-for-4 with three RBI, including a two-run triple, while Leary was 2-for-4 with four RBI.
Lefty Brandon Neeck pitched just 4.2 innings in a no-decision for Virginia; being lifted with three runs in during the top of the fifth. He gave up four runs on six hits with three strikeouts to no walks. Right-hander Jay Woolfolk (1-1) was the first UVA reliever and earned the win in one inning of work with one run charged to his line.
Senior right-hander Mason Pelio (San Diego, Calif.) went two-plus innings in a scheduled short start. Pelio (1-1) gave up five runs, including three with nobody out in the third on five hits and two walks with two strikeouts.
