Big dogs on the o-line set the tone early inside Fish Field House.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College football team held its sixth spring practice inside Fish Field House on Saturday. The Eagles are nearly halfway through their spring season, leading up to the Jay McGillis Memorial Spring Game on April 9.
Â
Notes From Day Seven:
First Track Heard During Team Flex: "Billie Jean" (Michael Jackson)
Â
Big Dogs at Work: In the first play from scrimmage, running back Pat Garwo III ran through a big hole created by left tackle Jack Conley before safety Jaiden Woodbey eventually closed the gap and made the stop. That play, however, set the tone for the day for the first team offensive line. The o-line surged up the middle for successful runs by Alec Sinkfield and Andre Hines. The group also got outside, creating space for Xavier Coleman behind the block of Kevin Cline.
Â
Team Periods: The secondary came away with several interceptions on tip plays beginning with Jalen Williams diving for a tipped ball. Linebacker Casey Phinney nabbed a tip pass and nickel Jason Scott jumped a route for a pick of his own, while safety Jamareeh Jones hauled one in on a play-action overthrow. The offense found its groove on several lengthy drives as the Phil Jurkovec to Zay Flowers and Emmett Morehead to Taji Johnson connections were hitting regularly. Jurkovec hooked up with Flowers on 3rd-and-1 for a 41-yard touchdown over the defense. The final drive of the day was capped by a touchdown run from Coleman.
Â
Third Downs: Working on third-down situations, the first team defense bested the offense in the first go-around. The second team offense moved the chains on completions from Morehead to Dino Tomlin and Johnson, who caught a 35-yard reception down the right sideline. Tight end Joey Luchetti picked up a first down for the first team, but the defense responded on its next chance on a pass break-up by corner Elijah Jones.
