
Eagles Toppled by No. 19 Cavaliers

BRIGHTON, Mass. – The Boston College baseball team suffered an 18-1 defeat to No. 19 Virginia in front of 3,028 at Disharoon Park on Saturday evening. The Eagles fell to 7-10 overall and 1-4 in the ACC, while the Cavaliers improved to 18-1 and 4-1.

UVA put eight runs on the board in the bottom of the second and never looked back. Catcher Kyle Teel had the big blow with a grand slam; the first of five Cavalier home runs on the day. Third baseman Jake Gelof contributed a pair of homers to push his season total to 11.

Boston College put its lone run on the board by way of a home run from sophomore left fielder Travis Honeyman (Massapequa, N.Y.). It marked his third home run of the series as he finished the game 2-for-3 with a walk.

Lefty Brian Gursky (5-0) went six innings in the win for Virginia. He surrendered just the one run on four hits and two walks with six strikeouts. Freshman righty Sean Hard (Mahwah, N.J.) pitched a scoreless-first, but failed to record an out in the second before being pulled with seven runs in, five of which were earned.
