Eagles return to work on St. Patrick's Day
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College football team got back to work on St. Patrick's Day inside Fish Field House for morning drills.
Setting the Edge: Redshirt senior Khris Banks made his presence known during the final plays of practice on Thursday. Playing at left defensive end, Banks disengaged from his block and reached up to deflect a pass intended for the right side of the formation. He then stuffed a running play up the middle and set the edge with classmate Jaiden Woodbey to deny Pat Garwo III the perimeter on consecutive plays. Sophomore defensive end Donovan Ezeiruaku also disrupted the offense's timing on several plays with penetration into the backfield.Â
3rd Down: Phil Jurkovec and the offense emphasized execution on third-and-long situations. Zay Flowers, Jaden Williams and Lewis Bond all found pockets between the numbers in the secondary to pull down throws from Jurkovec for chunk gains. Jurkovec later hit Dante Reynolds along the left sideline in rhythm with an over-the-shoulder throw.Â
Lay the Hammer:Â Redshirt sophomore tight end Hans Lillis delivered a huge block outside right tackle to spring Garwo for a lengthy gain on the ground. Lillis drew immediate praise from head coach Jeff Hafley and the rest of the offense.Â
Â
Watch the Replay: On the final play of Thursday's practice, Jurkovec's third down pass up the middle for an in-cutting tight end was deflected by both offensive and defensive players, before being rescued from hitting the turf by Flowers for a first down. All eyes then focused on the replay shown on the Fish Field House videoboard to confirm the reception.Â
