Eagles Break Fundraising Record in Annual Support Your Sport Week
February 22, 2022 | Boston College Athletics
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College athletic department raised an all-time record $1.43 million during its Support Your Sport Week. A total of 4,322 donors participated in the annual challenge with donations to individual BC sports teams during the week of Feb. 7-11.
University Trustee David Griffith '68 and Janet Griffith P'00 '02 '06 generously provided the challenge funds to create fundraising competitions amongst the 31 teams again this year. The Griffiths played a crucial role in creating Support Your Sport in 2020. The now annual tradition has raised nearly $3 million for BC teams since its inception.
Women's ice hockey had the highest percentage of alumni participation at 95%, while swimming & diving was the recruiting champion with over 900 individual donors. The lacrosse program was crowned the impact champion with an average donation north of $1,000.
The women's track & field and cross country, field hockey, swimming & diving and fencing programs each won a daily challenge.
Funds raised go directly to all of BC's 31 varsity squads to help supplement crucial operating funds for nutrition, equipment, recruiting, and other program priorities.
