Eagles, U.S. Earn Silver Medal at 2022 Winter Olympic Games

Alex Carpenter ’16, Megan Keller ’19 and Cayla Barnes all took home their second career Olympic medals, while BC associate head coach Courtney Kennedy earned her first as a coach and third overall, as the U.S. fell to Canada, 3-2.
BEIJING – Four members of the Boston College women's hockey program claimed a silver medal with the U.S. National Team at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, China. Alex Carpenter '16, Megan Keller '19 and Cayla Barnes all took home their second career Olympic medals, while BC associate head coach Courtney Kennedy earned her first as a coach and third overall, as the U.S. fell to Canada, 3-2.
Carpenter tallied an assist in the gold medal game to finish the tournament with seven points on four goals and three assists. This marked the second Olympic games for Carpenter, who has now won two silver medals.
In her second Winter Games, Keller had four points on four assists while leading the U.S. in time on ice in the entire tournament with 176 minutes played.
Barnes, who along with Keller was a member of the U.S. squad that won gold in 2018, finished her second Olympic games with six points on one goal and five assists while finishing second to Keller in time on ice with 166 minutes played. Barnes scored her first career Olympic goal in the U.S. 4-1 win over Finland in the semi-final game.
With this year's class of Olympians, the Boston College women's hockey program has now featured eight players who have combined for 13 medals: Kelli Stack '11 (2010, 2014), Molly Schaus '11 (2010, 2014), Emily Pfalzer '15 (2018), Haley Skarupa '16 (2018), Kali Flanagan '19 (2018), Keller (2018, 2022), Carpenter (2014, 2022) and Barnes (2018, 2022).
Additionally, head coach Katie Crowley was a three-time Olympian (1998, 2002, 2006), winning gold, silver and bronze, and Kennedy was a two-time Olympian (2002, 2006) as a player, earning silver and bronze, before helping coach this year's U.S. squad to a medal.
