Waggoner (27 pts), Lacey (22 pts) combine for 49 points
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College women's basketball outlasted Boston University in a thrilling 90-80 victory in another edition of the Battle of Comm. Ave on Sunday afternoon in Conte Forum.
The Eagles earn a fifth straight win at home in the series while improving to 7-3 overall. BU drops to 4-4 on the season.
It was an offensive explosion for a BC team that scored a season-high 90 points, shot 52 percent from the field, and made a season-best seven 3-pointers.
Dontavia Waggoner turned in the best performance of her career with a personal-high 27 points and 10 rebounds (7 offensive) for her second double-double of the season. The Nashville, Tenn., native shot 13-of-18 from the floor and recorded four assists and four steals.
JoJo Lacey also had herself a career day, firing in 22 points with five of her eight shots coming from beyond the arc. Lacey also had five steals and three rebounds. Lacey and Waggoner combined for 49 points on a combined 21-for-33 shooting from the field.
Andrea Daley scored 15 points, while Taina Mair tallied 12 points with six rebounds, a game-high nine assists, and two steals.
In a contest that featured 12 lead changes and 11 ties, the Eagles had to battle through a hot-shooting BU team that shot 65 percent (11-17) from deep and went 17-of-18 at the line.
The defense pulled through over the last 2:01 of the game when the Eagles finished the contest on a 10-0 run with the score tied, 80-80. BC forced BU to miss its final three shot attempts and three turnovers during the run.
Maria Gakdeng, who scored eight of her 10 points in the fourth quarter, started the run with a layup before Waggoner and Lacey scored on back-to-back possessions. Mair and Daley ice the game with four straight free throws.
BC scored 32 points in the final frame and boasted a 72.2 percent shooting clip. It's the highest-scoring output in any quarter this season.
Fifty-two of BC's points came in the paint, and forced BU into 23 turnovers for 29 points.
The Eagles return to action on Wednesday in the ACC opener at 6 p.m. in Conte Forum against No. 9 Virginia Tech.
