December 02, 2022 | Volleyball
Eagles tie a program record 20 wins, will face the winner of St. John's and Binghamton tomorrow
Chestnut Hill, Mass – Boston College defeated Buffalo 3-0 on Friday evening, the Eagles won by scores 25-18, 25-17 and 27-25. BC improves to 20-13 overall on the season and Buffalo finishes their season 19-14 overall and 10-8 in conference play. Tonight's win ties a single season program record and is good for just the third 20 win season in BC program history.Â
In set one, the Eagles looked to start quick on their home court, and that they would as they outhit the Bulls .429 to .250. The key moments came late in the set, after being tied at 15-15 a piece, BC rattled off a 10-3 scoring run highlighted by kills from Senior outside hitter Silvia Ianeselli (Trento, Italy) and Sophomore middle blockers Jenna Pollock (St. Catharines, Ont) and Julia Haggerty (Lafayette, Calif).Â
After cruising to a set two win to go up 2-0, the Eagles were gunning for the sweep, and they would go on to get it but not before a nice rally from Buffalo who was of course looking to stay alive and force a fourth set. After going down 22-20, BC managed to force deuce at 24-24 and then won three straight points to clinch the set and the match capped off by a memorable clinching kill from Junior outside hitter Katrina Jensen (Temecula, Calif).Â
Jensen finished with a game-high 11 kills on a .350 hitting percentage to go along with three blocks. Senior right side Izzy Clavenna (Dallas, Texas) tallied an efficient 10 kills on a .588 hitting percentage as well.Â
For Head Coach Jason Kennedy, this is his second 20 win season in his five year tenure and his 78th overall win in his BC career . Kennedy is now just two wins shy of tying the BC all time coaching wins record which is held by former Head Coach Andrea Leonard.Â
Boston College will take on the winner of tonight's match between St. John's and Binghamton tomorrow at 4 p.m in the second round of the National Invitational Volleyball Championship.Â
