Merrimack Edges Boston College 3-1 to Open Home-and-Home

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Merrimack snapped a three-game home losing streak to Boston College on Thursday night in a 3-1 Hockey East victory to begin a home-and-home series at Lawler Rink.

The Eagles dropped to 2-3-1 (2-2-0 HEA) while the Warriors improved to 5-3-0 (3-1-0 HEA).

Defenseman Slava Demin handed Merrimack a 1-0 lead at 8:42 of the first period, wristing a low shot through traffic from the high slot.

The Warriors doubled their lead at 8:29 of the second during a major power play when Filip Forsmark tipped a shot-pass from Zach Bookman over the right pad of Mitch Benson (27 saves).

Boston College had an answer late in the period on Eamon Powell's first goal of the season. Oskar Jellvik set up Powell at the center point and the junior drifted into the high slot before firing a shot low glove side through an Andre Gasseau screen.

The Eagles had a pair of power play chances in the third period but couldn't find the equalizer past Hugo Ollas (18 saves).
Jordan Seyfert finished his own rebound at the right post with 2:42 left in regulation at even strength to seal the victory for Merrimack.

Both schools went 1-for-6 on the power play and BC won the faceoff battle 30-24.

The teams close their home-and-home series on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. on ESPN+ at Kelley Rink.
