Eagles Dominate Morgan State in First Game of Puerto Rico Clasico

Andrea Daley Nets Career-High 18 points with 7 rebounds
SAN JUAN - The Boston College women's basketball team cruised past Morgan State in a dominant 75-34 win over Morgan State on Friday evening inside Roberto Clemente Coliseum in the first game of the Puerto Rico Clasico.Â
The Eags earn a fourth straight win and improve to 5-2 before their matchup in the Clasico finale tomorrow at 5 p.m. against Stephen F. Austin. Morgan State falls to 6-1.Â
Boston College wasted no time in setting the tone, starting the game with an impressive 15-4 start in the first 4:26 of the game. The Eagles stretched the lead to 17 going into the second period thanks in large part to Andrea Daley scoring 14 of her career-high 18 points in the period. Â
Morgan State never threatened the Eagles, as they went into the half with a 23-point lead and grew the advantage to as much as 42 in the fourth. It's the largest victory of the season for BC, who saw all 10 players earn minutes and nine enter the scoring column.Â
Daley shot an efficient 7-of-11 en route to her career day, and also led the team with seven rebounds. Maria Gakdeng netted 11 points and Dontavia Waggoner rounded out the leading scorers with 10. Taina Mair dished out a team-high four assists.Â
The reserves for BC posted 29 points to Morgan State's eight, with Ally VanTimmeren setting a season-high nine points and T'Yana Todd scoring nine. Ally Carman registered a career-high six points and four rebounds, while Kayla Lezama tallied five.Â
Defensively, Boston College held Morgan State to three quarters in single digits in scoring, while limiting MSU to 22.9 percent shooting from the field. The two leading scorers of Ja'Niah Henson and Charlene Shepherd were held in check to a combined 6-of-19 shooting and 18 points. The duo came in averaging just over 30 points per game between the tandem. Â
BC dominated the glass with a 44-15 rebounding showing and 13 offensive rebounds that led to 18 second-chance points.Â
