Eagles claim defensive lineman and rookie of the week recognition.
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Boston College football graduate defensive end Marcus Valdez (Perth Amboy, N.J.) was voted ACC Co-Defensive Lineman of the Week, while redshirt-freshman quarterback Emmett Morehead (Woodside, Calif.) earned Rookie of the Week as voted on by members of the media covering week 11 of the college football season.
The weekly ACC award is the first for either play in their career.
Valdez filled up the stat sheet and led the BC defense in a come-from-behind, 21-20 upset at No. 16 NC State. He posted six tackles with a career-high two sacks and three tackles for loss. Valdez forced a fumble on a strip-sack and intercepted a forward pass on the final play of the game that was credited as a fumble recovery. The BC defense, which tailed 17-7 at the half, held the Wolfpack to 61 yards in the second half.
Morehead led BC on a 12-play, 69-yard, game-winning drive, capped by a two-yard touchdown pass to complete the Eagles' victory. He completed a pair of third-down conversions on the drive. Morehead went 29-for-48 for 330 yards and three touchdowns. He became the first BC quarterback to surpass five TDs and 600 yards in his first two starts.
