
20 Former Eagles Appear on NHL Opening Night Rosters

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – A total of 20 former Boston College men's hockey players have earned spots on NHL Opening Night rosters ahead of the 2022-23 regular season, which begins on Tuesday night.
Boston College's total ranks second among all NCAA Division I schools behind only Michigan (21). Eight former Eagles have made their NHL debuts over the last two seasons, which leads all schools.
Beginning the season with new teams this year are forwards Johnny Gaudreau (Columbus), Zach Sanford (Nashville) and Colin White (Florida), and defenseman Mike Matheson (Montreal). Last season, 24 former Eagles appeared in the NHL which ranked tied for third in the nation and first among all Hockey East schools.
Over the summer, Alex Newhook added Boston College's 21st name to the Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche. Newhook became the 13th different former Eagle to hoist the Cup and the fourth since 2016. BC's 22 names on the Cup rank second in the NCAA behind only Wisconsin.
