CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College women's basketball team put forth a team-centric performance in a convincing 95-71 win over Syracuse on Thursday evening in Conte Forum.Â
The Eagles improve to 10-4 and pick up their first ACC win of the season, while Syracuse falls to 8-6 and 1-3 in league action.Â
It was another balanced night in scoring, where four players scored in double figures and two others scored nine points. BC assisted on 23 of its 38 field goals and scored at least 95 points for the second time this season.Â
Maria Gakdeng fired in a career-high 21 points (15 in the second half) and tied a personal best with nine rebounds. The freshman shot 9-of-12 from the field and hit all three foul shots.Â
Marnelle Garraud hit five of her six shots from 3-point range en route to 17 points, while Makayla Dickens came off the bench to score 15 points and dish out a team and season-high seven assists. Cameron Swartz chipped in with 11 points, five rebounds and five helpers.Â
The Eagles wasted no time in getting off to a solid start, as they took a commanding lead after the first period thanks to a 16-6 run to take a 25-15 edge going into the second period.Â
The three-point barrage continued for BC in the second quarter, shooting 5-of-8 from deep, including four of the first five baskets in the frame. BC's blistering 60.6 percent shooting from the floor in the first half led to a 49-33 advantage at the break.Â
Boston College kept its foot on the gas pedal in the second half, growing the lead to as much as 28 in the fourth period and never letting it dip below 18 points. The 24-point win over the Orange is the largest since the Eagles earned a 75-50 victory in 2005.Â
The 38 field goals and 11 trifectas made are both season highs. The reserves outscored 'Cuse's bench 37-17 and shot a combined 15-of-25 from the field. BC dominated the paint as well with 50 points to the Orange's 32.Â
BC will aim for a 2-0 week in conference play on Sunday at Clemson. Tip-off is set for 12 p.m.
