INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Katie Crowley, The Jane Rattigan Head Women's Hockey Coach, has been selected to receive the 2022 NCAA Silver Anniversary Award, the NCAA Honors Committee announced on Monday.
Â
The Silver Anniversary Award recognizes distinguished individuals on the 25th anniversary of the conclusion of their college athletic careers for their collegiate and professional achievements, and civic contributions since graduation. The award winners are selected by the NCAA Honors Committee, which is comprised of representatives from NCAA institutions and conferences, and past award recipients.
Â
Crowley graduated from Brown University in 1997, where she was a standout student-athlete in both ice hockey and softball. On the ice, she was a three-time Ivy League Player of the Year and was named the ECAC Player of the Year as senior in 1997. Crowley is Brown's all-time leader in points (206) and goals (123) and holds the single-season records for both goals (40) and points (71). On the diamond, Crowley appeared in more games as a pitcher (120) and pitched more innings (709.0) than any other player in program history. She ranks second all-time in career wins (54) and ranks third all-time in strikeouts (264). A two-time ice hockey captain and three-time softball captain, Crowley has been inducted into the Brown Athletics Hall of Fame and was named to the ECAC's 1990's All-Decade Team in hockey.
Â
Crowley was a standing member of the U.S. National Team from 1997 to 2006 and competed in the Four Nations Cup, World Championship Tournaments and the first three Winter Olympics when women's ice hockey was an official event. She won a gold medal in the 1998 Olympics in Nagano, Japan; a silver medal in the 2002 Games in Salt Lake City and a bronze at the 2006 Games in Turin, Italy. She took home five consecutive silver medals in the World Championships (1997, 1999-2001, 2004) and a gold medal in 2005 with Team USA. Crowley still ranks third in career points at the Olympics (14-9-23) and is tied for first in goals (14).
Â
Now in her 15th season at the helm of the Eagles, Crowley is a two-time AHCA National Coach of the Year and four-time Hockey East Coach of the Year. She has guided BC to 11 NCAA Tournaments, six NCAA Frozen Fours, five Hockey East regular-season titles, three Hockey East Tournament championships and six Beanpot crowns. She has also coached two Patty Kazmaier Award winners, two National Rookie of the Year winners, 17 All-Americans and seven of the last 12 Hockey East Player of the Year winners.
Crowley is just the second women's ice hockey player to earn the prestigious honor, joining current Harvard head coach Katey Stone.
Â
Crowley is one of six honorees to be recognized with the award in 2022 on Jan. 19 in Indianapolis. Maiya Anderson (Air Force), Tim Duncan (Wake Forest), Warrick Dunn (Florida State), Matthew Humphreys (UC Santa Cruz), and Tina Thompson (USC) will also be honored.
