Sophia Reineke to compete for her third national singlehanded title
DORCHESTER, Mass. — After a strong opening weekend that yielded two top-five finishes, the Eagles went into week two and picked up right where they left off.
The highlight of the weekend came in Dorchester, where Sophia Reineke of the Eagles took home the NEISA Singlehanded Conference Championship, earning an automatic berth to the National Singlehanded Championships. As a junior, Reineke was named to the All-American team and earned All-American Women's Skipper and Coed Skipper Honors. With her victory over the weekend, she will have a chance to win her third National Singlehanded Championship after taking home the title in 2017 and 2019, while placing third in 2018.
The Eagles secured top-ten finishes in the other two regattas, including fourth of 18 for the Regis Trophy and an eighth place finish for the Hatch Brown Trophy. At the Regis Trophy Regatta, the Eagles' A Division team of Elizabeth Redmond and Katelyn McGauley edged out the Coast Guard Academy, and the B Division Team of Sara Schumann and Nicole Moeder cruised past fifth-place Boston University by 17 points to secure fourth place.
The Eagles will look ahead to three regattas next weekend, where they will sail for the Hoyt Trophy at Brown, Hood Trophy at Tufts, and in the Mrs. Hurst Bowl hosted by Dartmouth.
