No.1 Seminoles Top Eagles in ACC Opener

Top-ranked FSU used a second-half surge to top the Eagles.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 1 Florida State Seminoles used a second-half surge to top the Boston College women's soccer team, 4-1, on Saturday night at the Seminole Soccer Complex. The match marked the ACC opener for both squads.
After a scoreless first half, the top-ranked Seminoles scored what would be the eventual game-winning goal in the 49th minute and then added insurance goals in the 56th and 73rd minute. After a fourth FSU goal in the 83rd, Linda Boama converted a penalty kick to put the Eagles on the board.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- 49' | Leilanni Nesbeth sent in a corner that Wiebke Willebrandt was able to get her hands on but the rebounded ball fell to Emily Madril off the near post and she finished it inside the left post.
- 56' | Nesbeth sent in a corner kick to the far post and Lauren Flynn headed it back down and back across the box past a diving Willebrandt.
- 73' | Jenna Nighswonger carried the ball down the left side of the field towards her offensive third before slipping a pass to Yujie Zhao. Zhao finished the ball inside the left post.
- 83' | From the top of the box, Nighswonger fed a pass to the left for Ran Iwai who sent a high arching shot to the far post.
- 84' | Linda Boama sent a mid-height shot to the left of the goalkeeper for the conversion.
- Boston College is now 3-15-3 in the all-time series with the Seminoles … the Eagles are 2-3-0 in the last five meetings with Florida State.
- Goalkeeper Wiebke Willebrandt finished with a season-high 12 saves for Boston College.
- Linda Boama's penalty kick goal marked the first attempt and conversion of her career.
- Boama led the Eagles with two shots … Jenna Bike, Sam Smith and Michela Agresti each registered a shot for the Eagles.
- FSU held the 26-5 lead in shots and a 6-1 lead in corner kicks.

- Boston College returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. with the ACC home opener against Wake Forest.
