
Eagles Fall Twice at Michigan Tournament

Volleyball loses to Dayton and Michigan in morning-night doubleheader.
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The Boston College volleyball team was handed a pair of losses at the Michigan Challenge at Cliff Keen Arena on Friday. The Eagles lost to Dayton, 3-1, in the early session before getting swept, 3-0, by host Michigan.
BC lost to the Flyers 18-25, 25-17, 21-25, 19-25. After leveling the match at a set apiece, the Eagles went down early in both the third and fourth sets, staged a late comeback, but ultimately fell short as Dayton put together late-set runs to secure each game.
Dayton's Jamie Peterson led all players with 20 kills on a .327 attack rate. Graduate outside hitter Clare Naughton (Atlanta, Ga.) led the Eagles with 14 kills to go with nine digs. Graduate middle blocker Amaka Chukwujekwu (Laurel, Md.) led the BC defense with seven blocks, while sophomore libero Anna Murphy (Zionsville, Ind.) picked up 15 digs.
In the nightcap, the Wolverines won the first two sets by scores of 25-13 and 25-17 before clinching the match with a competitive, 25-22Â third. The Eagles led byb as many as four at 16-12 in their effort to force a fourth set. Chukwujekwu powered the BC attack with 11 kills.
Boston College wraps up non-conference play Saturday at Eastern Michigan at 1 p.m.
