September 10, 2021 | Field Hockey
BC improves to 5-0 on the season - the program's best start since 2010
NEWTON, Mass. — Milagros Arteta's goal late in the fourth quarter proved to be the difference, as No. 3 Boston College improved to 5-0 on the season with a 2-1 victory over No. 12 Connecticut on Friday night.
Arteta blasted her team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 56th minute, taking a pass from Nell Webber and firing it past Huskies' goalie Cheyenne Sprecher straight on.
UConn got the scoring going just over three minutes into the game, converting a rebounded shot attempt off a penalty corner. The Eagles' Jaime Natale struck back, scoring unassisted in the 15th minute to tie it at 1-1. That score held into the halftime intermission.
Boston College outshot UConn, 16-9, including an 11-4 edge in shots on-goal. Jonna Kennedy made three saves for the Eagles, improving to 3-0 on the year.
With the win, BC moves to 5-0 for the first time since 2010 - downing the third straight opponent ranked in the top 12 nationally. The Eagles host Boston University on Sunday at 1 p.m., looking to tie the program's best-ever start at 6-0.
