
Volleyball Unbeaten in BC Classic

Eagles pick up wins over Hartford and Northeastern on Saturday.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College volleyball team ran through its home BC Classic with a perfect 3-0 record inside Power Gym this weekend after gaining wins over Hartford and Northeastern on Saturday. The Eagles defeated the Hawks, 3-1, and earned a thrilling 3-2 victory over the Huskies in the nightcap; coming from behind in each match to win.

BC dominated the first set against NU, 25-16. The Huskies then took a two sets to one lead behind narrow wins of 25-22 and 26-24. The Eagles attack rebounded to hit .400 in the fourth and even the match with a 25-17 win. The final set went 15-12 to BC. Graduate outside hitter Clare Naughton (Atlanta, Ga.) finished the night with her match-high 17th kill on match-point. She added 11 digs in a double-double effort.

Overall, five Eagles finished in double digit kills. Sophomore outside hitter Katrina Jensen (Temecula, Calif.) contributed 15 kills, while junior right side Izzy Clavenna (Dallas, Texas) notched 11. Junior outside hitter Silvia Ianeselli (Trento, Italy) hit .471 with 10 kills and graduate middle blocker Amaka Chukwujekwu (Laurel, Md.) hit .381 with 10.

Sophomore setter Sophia Lambros (Fullerton, Calif.) and Grace Penn (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) each tallied 30 assists.

In the first match of the day, BC overcame a first set loss to the Hawks behind a double-double effort from Chukwujekwu. She posted a career-high 11 blocks and 10 kills on an error-free .625 attack percentage.

Jensen, who did not play in the first set, came off the bench to lead the Eagles' attack with 12 kills, while hitting .409. She knocked down kills on her first four swings of the second set, including the first three BC points of the frame.

On the back row, sophomore libero Anna Murphy (Zionsville, Ind.) led the Eagle defense with 19 digs. Classmate Bridget Green (New York, N.Y.) added 12. Lambros guided the offense with 26 assists. Freshman Jane Petrie (San Diego, Calif.) added 20 in her collegiate debut.

Boston College returns to action next weekend at the Bryant Invitational in Smithfield, R.I. with matches against Holy Cross, Brown and Bryant.
