Sheehan, Eagles Dominate Weekend Opener vs. Miami

Boston College wins in shutout fashion, 13-0, behind Sheehan's six-scoreless innings.
BRIGHTON, Mass. – The Boston College baseball team opened its series against Miami with a 13-0 win behind six-shutout innings from junior right-hander Emmet Sheehan (Darien, Conn.). The Eagles improved to 18-21 overall and 7-18 in the ACC, while the Hurricanes dropped to 23-14 and 14-13.

For the second Friday night in a row, Sheehan (5-3) provided BC with a scoreless-outing to win its weekend opener. He struck out nine and allowed just one hit; a first-inning double. Sheehan scattered three walks and two batters. He struck out three batters in the second and fifth innings.

The Eagles lineup racked up 16 hits as six players had multi-hit games, including five with two hits apiece just twice through the order. Junior center fielder Sal Frelick (Lexington, Mass.) went 3-for-3 with two runs out of the leadoff spot. Graduate right fielder Dante Baldelli (Cumberland, R.I.) was 3-for-3 with a three-run home run that capped a five-run bottom of the first.

Boston College led 7-0 after two and added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. The Eagles pushed their lead to double digits with a four-run seventh. Frelick ripped a RBI-single to right and junior second baseman Cody Morissette (Exeter, N.H.) crushed a three-run home run to right field. Morissette finished the night 3-for-5 with four runs and four RBI.

Freshman lefty Joe Vetrano (Shrub Oak, N.Y.) took over for Sheehan in the seventh and went the rest of the way for a three-inning save. He struck out two and gave up just one hit and one walk.

Right-hander Alejandro Rosario (4-4) lasted just 3.2 innings in the start for Miami. He was tagged for eight runs, seven earned, on 12 hits and two walks with five strikeouts.
