Kennedy Named Defensive Player of the Year; Four Earn All-ACC

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced its All-ACC Field Hockey teams Thursday, with four Eagles earning honors. Jonna Kennedy and Margo Carlin earned first-team honors, whole Fusine Govaert and Elizabeth Warner were named to the second team. Kennedy was also named ACC Defensive Player of the Year.
A native of Watertown, Massachusetts, Kennedy was a two-time ACC Defensive Player of the Week during the spring season. She had a 7-5 record, including a 7-2 record in 2021, with a 1.76 GAA and an ACC-leading .794 save percentage. She had 81 saves on the year and led the ACC with 6.75 saves per game. She also posted three shutouts.
Carlin had six goals and seven assists in 14 games and was tied for third in the ACC in points (19) and assists. A native of Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, Carlin was tied for the ACC-lead in assists per game with .500. In 2019, Carlin was named ACC Freshman of the Year and to the All-ACC first team.
Govaert played primarily in the back this season scoring two goals and having four points. She also had four defensive saves, which is tied for second in the nation in the category. Govaert was named to the All-ACC first team in 2019 and was a 2019 NFHCA All-American.
Warner set career-highs in both goals (8) and points (19) on her way to second-team honors. Warner is third in the ACC with .571 goals per game and tied for third in points per game with 1.36.
BC went 9-5 during the 2020-21 season, including 9-2 (3-2 ACC) during the spring 2021 season.
