BC Sweeps Syracuse on Saturday

Eagles win the final two games of the series 5-3 and 3-1
BRIGHTON, Mass. - Â Junior pitcher Susannah Anderson earned the win and a save as Boston College swept a doubleheader on Saturday against Syracuse, 5-3 and 3-1. The two victories moved the Eagles to 8-21 on the season and 4-13 in the ACC while the Orange dropped to 15-11 and 8-8 in conference play.

In game one of the doubleheader, Peyton Schnackenberg turned in a stellar performance against her former team as the Syracuse transfer limited the Orange to three runs in 5.2 innings of work. The New Jersey native struck out three to move to 2-0 on the season.

Anderson was lights out in relief, striking out two in 1.1 perfect innings for her second career save. It marked the first save of the season for the Virginia product.

The BC offense came alive with five runs on 10 hits, including a big three-run third to jump out to a 3-0 lead.

Gianna Randazza got things started with a sacrifice fly and Kristin Giery and Djhane Valido followed with two-out, RBI singles for the Eagles.

Syracuse got back into it with a two-out, bloop single to score two in the fourth to cut the deficit to 3-2.

Kristin Giery continued her big day with an opposite field, two-run home run in the fifth to put BC in front, 5-2.

The Orange added one run in the sixth, but Anderson came in to get the final out of the inning to end the threat.

Three Eagles finished with multi-hit games, including Ellie Mataya (2-for-4, run), Valido (2-for-3, RBI) and Giery's perfect day (3-for-3, 3 RBI, run). Nicole Giery also scored two runs for the victors.

In game two, Anderson threw her 12th complete game of the season. She limited the Orange to one unearned run and struck out five for her fifth win of the season.

The only run to cross the plate in game two for the Orange came in the first inning as Lailoni Mayfield delivered a RBI single to give Syracuse an early 1-0 lead.

BC responded with a pair of runs in the second. Junior catcher Gianna Boccagno smoked a two-out single to center to put the Eagles in front for good, 2-1.

Nicole Giery laced a double down the line in the third to score Mataya to give BC a 3-1 lead.

Anderson made the two-run lead stand to go the distance for Boston College.

Freshman Elisabeth Laviolette earned her first career start in game one of the doubleheader. She finished starting both games on Saturday, going 2-for-5 with two doubles.
