Eagles Set for NCAA Skiing Championships at Cannon Mountain

FRANCONIA, N.H. – The Boston College skiing team begins the 2021 NCAA Championships on Wednesday (March 10) at Cannon Mountain with the first of two giant slalom runs at 9 a.m. On Friday (March 12), the Eagles close the event with the slalom beginning at 9 a.m. Live video is available for free throughout the championship at NCAA.com and live results can be found at rmisaskiing.com.

NCAA SQUAD
For the first time in school history, Boston College is sending a full squad of six skiers to the NCAA Championships. Senior captain Parker Biele and freshmen Lauren Geary and Haley Castner will compete for the women's team, while junior captain Trent Gutstein, sophomore Will Kornya and freshman Zach Simmons will race for the men.Â
A YEAR OF FIRSTS
After becoming the first female in program history to qualify for the NCAA Championships last year, Parker Biele became the first Eagle to both win and podium at an EISA race this season at the St. Lawrence Carnival at Whiteface. Biele was the top-ranked EISA female skier in giant slalom, becoming the first skier to ever win the EISA League for the season in the overall rankings for GS.
Zach Simmons became the first male skier to podium at an EISA ski race with second place at the St. Lawrence Carnival in Lake Placid. He finished third overall in the EISA league for the season, the highest finish ever for a male BC skier. Lauren Geary was 10th overall at both slalom races at the first-ever BC Carnival at Proctor, earning the program's highest finish ever in an EISA slalom race.
ALL-ACADEMIC
A program record 12 members of the BC skiing team were named to the National Collegiate All-Academic Ski Team on Tuesday by the United States Collegiate Ski Coaches Association. Receiving the honor were Emma Birtwhistle, Ben Charleston, Morgan Ellis, Lauren Geary, Hunter Kendig, Will Kornya, Gigi Kranjc, Andrew Rusis, Zach Simmons, Matthew Smallhouse, Sophia Staudenmayer and Tyler Wetzel.
