
Syracuse Defeats BC 67-61 in ACC Tournament

BC battled for 40 minutes as the Orange held on for the win
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Boston College connected on five three-point field goals in the fourth quarter and pulled to within a basket, but fifth-seeded Syracuse held on for a 67-61 victory Thursday in the second round of the 2021 ACC Tournament.
The victory moved Syracuse (13-7) to Friday's ACC quarterfinals versus Florida State while the loss ended BC's season at 7-12.
Syracuse ended the first quarter on a 6-0 run to lead 16-11. BC struggled from the field in the opening 10 minutes (3-of-15), but the Eagles converted 5-of-7 from the free throw line. Cameron Swartz led the way with six points and two rebounds in the first quarter.
BC found its shooting stroke in the second quarter, connecting on 46 percent of its shots to close to within four at halftime, 31-27. Marnelle Garraud hit the Eagles' only three of the first half to lead BC with five points in the second quarter.
Despite only shooting 13 percent from behind the arc in the opening 20 minutes, BC took care of the basketball and committed just four turnovers to keep within striking distance.
Syracuse jumped out to its largest lead of the game (41-31) with an 8-0 run in the third quarter to force a BC timeout with 6:25 left in the quarter. The Orange held BC to just 23 percent shooting from the field in the quarter to lead 46-37 after three.
Makayla Dickens knocked down a pair of three pointers and BC cut the Syracuse lead to two at 48-46, but the Orange responded with a critical 7-0 run to go up nine with five minutes remaining, 55-46.
BC would not go down without a fight as the Eagles drained five three-pointers in the fourth quarter, including a perfect 4-of-4 from Dickens. Her final three of the game pulled BC to within two at 63-61 with 18 seconds remaining, but the Orange iced the game with four consecutive free throws for the 67-61 victory.
Three Eagles finished in double-figures, led by Dickens' 14 points. Taylor Soule contributed 13 points and seven rebounds while Swartz chipped in with 11 points.
