Cayla Barnes Named Second Team All-American

CHESTNUT Hill, Mass. – Boston College defender Cayla Barnes earned American Hockey Coaches Association All-America honors on Friday, earning a spot on the second-team for the first all-american honors of her career.

Barnes, a Hockey East First Team All-Star selection this season, finished her third season at BC with 10 points on four goals and six assists while blocking a team-leading 36 shots. Barnes scored two game-winning goals for the Eagles and picked up two power play points while finishing with a plus-9 rating. The Eastvale, Calif. Native also had 59 shots on goal to rank eighth nationally among blue liners. Barnes fired at least two shots on goal in 17 of her 19 games played during the 2020-21 season.

The captain now has 56 career points on 14 goals and 42 assists, ranking 10th all-time in points and ninth all-time in goals by a BC defender.Â

This marks the 17th All-America selection in program history and the sixth time in the last seven years that a BC blue liner has been on the All-America teams.

Boston College (14-6-0) advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 12th time in program history before falling in the quarterfinal round to No. 3 Ohio State, 3-1.
