
Biele Finishes 13th Overall in NCAA Giant Slalom

FRANCONIA, N.H. – Senior Parker Biele finished 13th overall in the women's giant slalom at the 2021 NCAA Skiing Championships on Wednesday at Cannon Mountain, five spots higher than her NCAA debut last year in Montana.Â
Freshman Zach Simmons placed 16th in the men's giant slalom, the highest NCAA finish by a male skier in school history, to give the Eagles a pair of top-20 finishers on day one.
As a team, Boston College finished eighth out of 11 schools in the men's GS and 9th out of 11 in the women's GS.
Biele's times ranked 11th in the first run and 14th in the second run for a final combined time of 2:10.74. Simmons posted a combined time of 2:05.47, which included the 16th-fastest time in the first run.
Junior captain Trent Gutstein (2:06.43) had the second-best men's GS finish with 22nd, while sophomore Will Kornya (2:07.03) placed 26th.Â
On the women's side, freshmen Lauren Geary (2:14.68) and Haley Castner (2:17.71) were 27th and 28th respectively in their NCAA debuts.Â
Boston College will compete in the NCAA slalom competition on Friday (March 12) beginning at 9 a.m. in New Hampshire.
