He is the first BC skier to medal at the NCAA Championships
LYME CENTER, N.H. – Junior Bode Flanigan became the first Boston College skier to podium at the NCAA Championships, when he earned a bronze medal in the men's slalom with a time of 1:28.12 on Wednesday morning.
On his first run, Flanigan came through with a time of 43.05, which put him in 16th place. On his second run, he crossed the finish line with a time of 45.07, which was the second fastest time of the entire field. His strong second run propelled him into the bronze medal position. Flanigan has excelled in the slalom this season, securing five top-10 finishes, and only finishing outside of the top-10 once during the regular season.
"I really could not be more grateful for my teammates and coaches," Flanigan said. "I wholeheartedly mean it when I say that I would not be here without any of them and without all of the BC skiers who have come before me. I'm honored to represent Boston College on the national stage, and I'm so excited for what's to come for this team. Go Eagles!"
Head coach Alex Norden had this to say about Bode's performance this morning: "Bode had an incredible second run today. His tenacious work ethic and character has helped him put his skiing on another level. The team rallied around him today. Bode and his teammates have shown time and time again this season that it's always a great day to be an Eagle."
Up next: Flanigan will compete in the NCAA Championships Giant Slalom on Friday, Mar. 7. The race will be streamed live on NCAA.com.
