No. 15 Terriers Hold Off Top-Ranked Eagles to Split Battle of Comm Ave

BOSTON – Luke Tuch scored a pair of goals and Vinny Duplessis made 40 saves in his NCAA debut as No. 15 Boston University held off top-ranked Boston College for a 3-1 Hockey East victory on Saturday in the 284th Battle of Comm Ave at Walter Brown Arena.
The loss snapped BC's nation-best unbeaten streak at seven games as it dropped to 11-3-1 overall. The Terriers improved to 6-2-0 and ended a six-game regular season winless streak against the Eagles.
Eamon Powell scored the lone Boston College goal late in a power play during the first period for his second of the year. Drew Helleson had the primary assist and finished the weekend with three points, including Friday's dramatic overtime winner at Kelley Rink.
Spencer Knight (20 saves) suffered his first defeat of the season and first in his last 21 starts, snapping a 20-game unbeaten run dating back to last season.
Tuch's goal midway through the second period proved to be the game-winner, and the rookie added an insurance tally just 23 seconds into the third. Wilmer Skoog posted the primary assist on both of Tuch's goals.
Boston College out-shot BU 41-23 and had an edge of 79-35 in total shot attempts. Alex Newhook registered a game-high nine shots on goal in his second game back from injury.

1st 11:41, BC (1-0) | Helleson's one-timer from the center point deflected to Powell at the left doorstep and the rookie defenseman muscled the puck past Duplessis' skate at the right post.
1st 13:35, BU (1-1) | Alex Vlasic found time and space as he walked in through the Boston College slot before sending a shot inside the right post, glove side on the power play.
2nd 10:25, BU (1-2) | On a 2-on-1, Skoog sent a saucer pass from circle to circle and Tuch blasted a one-timer past Knight's outstretched glove to give BU its first lead.
3rd 0:23, BU (1-3) | Skoog skated into the right wing faceoff circle and fluttered a backhand pass to the far post for Tuch, who finished first time for his second of the night.
