Boston College Blanks Army 7-0 in 2021 Opener

WEYMOUTH, Mass. – Boston College women's tennis outlasted Army in doubles and coasted in singles for a 7-0 season-opening victory over the Black Knights on Friday afternoon at the Weymouth Club.Â
Freshmen Marice Aguiar and Sophia Edwards went undefeated in singles and doubles in their collegiate debuts. Aguiar teamed with Laura Lopez for a 6-1 victory in second doubles, while Edwards paired with Loren Haukova and pulled out a tiebreaker in third doubles to secure the opening point.
In singles, the Eagles won all six matches in straight sets, led by Natasha Irani who lost just a single game against Elizabeth Gilbert in third singles. Fellow tri-captain Kylie Wilcox dropped just three games in second singles, while Edwards claimed a 6-3, 6-1 win at number six.
Yufei Long, Aguiar and Lopez all won in a combination of 6-2 and 6-4 sets.Â
BC returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 6) at 5 p.m. against ACC rival Syracuse in the conference opener in Weymouth.Â
