BC Opens Spring Season Against Maine

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College field hockey team opens the 2021 spring season at home against Maine on Sunday, Feb. 28 at the BC Field Hockey Complex. The match begins at 2 p.m. and will be aired on ACCNX.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES
BC comes into the spring season following an 0-3 shortened fall. The Eagles had five games postponed in the fall before falling to North Carolina in the first round of the ACC Tournament. Up front, BC has 2019 All-American Margo Carlin, who scored 20 goals with six assists on her way to being named ACC Freshman of the Year. She's joined by Jaime Natale and Elizabeth Warner, who each had 13 points in 2019.
The Eagles also return All-American Fusine Govaert, who saw time in both the midfield and defense in the fall. In 2019, she had eight goals and eight assists on the year. In goal, Jonna Kennedy has taken over for All-American Sarah Dwyer. She started all three games for BC in the fall, totaling 27 saves.
SCOUTING MAINE
Maine did not play in the fall of 2020, but went 8-10 in 2019. They did have key wins over ranked teams in BU and UAlbany. The Black Bears lost their top scorer in Brianna Ricker, but do return second-leading scorer Chloe Walton, who had seven goals last season.
In goal, Mia Borley returns, who started every game for Maine in 2019. She has a 1.89 goals against average and .679 save percentage on the year.
Series History
BC is 11-2 all-time against Maine. The two teams last played in 2013, where BC won 5-4 in Newton. Maine's last win came in 2011, 4-3.
What's Next
BC is back in action Saturday, March 6 against Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, N.C. for a 12 p.m. match against the Demon Deacons.
