Eagles Kick Off 2021 Season at Burke Mountain in Vermont

EAST BURKE, Vt. – The Boston College skiing program officially begins the 2021 carnival season on Friday (Feb. 12) and Saturday (Feb. 13) at 9 a.m. each morning at Burke Mountain in Vermont. The women's team competes in a pair of giant slalom races on Friday, while the men follow with two GS events on Saturday. Live timing is available at bullitttiming.com.
2020 IN REVIEW
Last season was one the most successful for Boston College in program history. The Eagles finished as high as sixth place overall at the Colby Carnival among the highly competitive 13 teams in the EISA. Parker Biele became the first female in school history to qualify for the NCAA Championships and placed 18th overall in the giant slalom at Bridger Bowl in Montana. (the slalom was cancelled due to COVID-19).Â
HISTORIC YEAR
As a junior, captain Parker Biele posted the highest EISA finish ever by a BC skier at the Colby Carnival with fourth place in the giant slalom. She picked up her second straight top-10 a week later with sixth place in the GS at the Bates Carnival. Biele finished the EISA season with 142 points to rank 13th overall in women's GS and placed fifth in the GS at U.S. Junior Nationals at Snowbasin in Utah.
GUTSTEIN SHINES
Trent Gutstein closed the 2020 EISA season ranked 27th in men's slalom with 49 points and earned the first three top-20 EISA finishes of his career. Gutstein placed 15th in the slalom on his home hill at the UVM Carnival for his top career finish. He also finished 17th at Colby and 18th at Bates in the slalom on back-to-back weekends. The Stowe native will serve as a men's captain this season as a junior.
NEWCOMERS
The women's squad welcomes six new skiers for the 2021 season: Emma Birtwhistle (Vail, Colo.), Haley Castner (Marblehead, Mass.), Morgan Ellis (Piedmont, Calif.), Lauren Geary (Lakeville, Minn.), Sam Naples (Cohasset, Mass.) and Bella Ng (Whistler, British Columbia). The men's team has added five freshmen: Ben Charleston (Belmont, N.H.), Max Miller (Park City, Utah), Andrew Rusis (Manchester-by-the-Sea, Mass.), Zach Simmons (Portland, Ore.) and Matthew Smallhouse (Reno, Nev.).
PLAYING HOST
Boston College is set to host its first-ever EISA carnival this season at Proctor Academy in Andover, New Hampshire on Saturday, Feb. 27 and Sunday, Feb. 28. The Eagles will compete at the St. Lawrence Carnival two days prior at Whiteface Mountain on Feb. 25-26.
