Eagles Advance With Sweep of Delaware State

Naughton and Jensen leads BC attach into the second round.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- The Boston College volleyball team advanced to the second round of the National Invitational Volleyball Championship with a 3-0 sweep of Delaware State at Power Gym on Saturday evening. The Eagles won by scores of 28-26, 25-16 and 25-21 to improve to 17-16 overall in their first-ever postseason win and postseason home match.
The first set went back-and-forth with the Hornets (26-5) reaching set-point first at 24-22 before back-to-back BC points, including a set-tying ace from sophomore libero Anna Murphy (Zionsville, Ind.), extended the game. Boston College went on to dominate the second, hitting .370, before finishing the match on the ninth kill of the match from graduate middle blocker Amaka Chukwujekwu (Laurel, Md.) in the third.
Graduate outside hitter Clare Naughton (Atlanta, Ga.) and sophomore outside hitter Katrina Jensen (Temecula, Calif.) powered the Eagle attack with 12 kills apiece. Jensen hit a team-high .526. Chukwujekwu hit .500 and added three blocks.
Sophomore setters Grace Penn (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) and Sophia Lambros (Fullerton, Calif.) dished out 23 and 16 assists, respectively. Murphy totaled 13 digs.
Boston College faces Connecticut in the second round Sunday at 4 p.m. inside Power Gym.
