McBain Nets a Pair in 4-2 Victory to Open Ledyard Classic

HANOVER, N.H. – No. 20 Boston College scored four straight goals and secured a 4-2 victory over Mercyhurst on Thursday afternoon to open the 32nd Ledyard Classic at Dartmouth's Thompson Arena.

The Eagles extended their unbeaten streak to five games (3-0-2) and improved to 9-5-3 (5-3-2 HEA) overall. BC will face the winner of the New Hampshire vs. Dartmouth nightcap on Friday at either 4 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. in the Championship Game.

Jack McBain netted a pair of goals to give the senior 11 on the season, while Nikita Nesterenko posted a pair of assists. Matt Argentina picked up his second of the season and Aidan Hreschuk registered his first collegiate goal for the fourth and final tally.

Sophomore Henry Wilder (2-1-0) stopped 28 of the 30 Laker shots he faced to earn the win.

Mercyhurst (4-10-4) opened the scoring on the power play at 9:08 of the first period when Gueorgui Feduolov converted a rebound on his backhand through netfront traffic.

McBain knotted the score with a shorthanded tally at 4:05 of the first, tucking a forehand around the right pad of Hank Johnson (33 saves). Nesterenko and Marshall Warren collected the two assists on McBain's 10th of the year.

The Eagles stormed ahead midway through the second period with a pair of goals in the span of 1:06. From the right doorstep, Mike Posma tipped a loose puck to Argentina on the edge of the crease for his second of the year. McBain then redirected a right wing shot-pass from Brandon Kruse on the power play for a 3-1 cushion.

Hreschuk added a fourth for Boston College seven minutes into the third as the rookie snapped a shot high short side from the top of the right circle.

Austin Heidemann pulled a goal back for the Lakers with 2:21 remaining.Â
BC held a 37-30 advantage in shots on goal, led by five each from Hreschuk, Trevor Kuntar and Colby Ambrosio.
