Boston College Downs Albany in Sunday Victory

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College women's basketball team earned a 77-65 victory over Albany on Sunday afternoon at Conte Forum.
The Eagles improve to 5-1 on the season after their third straight win, while Albany falls to 1-3.
Makayla Dickens turned in her best performance of the season, as she led three players in double figures with a game-high 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field. Dickens also added five rebounds and four assists.
Taylor Soule was up to her usual ways with 17 points on six baskets, led the team with a season-best six rebounds, and dished out three helpers. Ally VanTimmeren joined Dickens in providing a lift off the bench, pouring in a season-best 15 points (13 in the first half) and shot 7-for-8 from the field.
The duo of Dickens and VanTimmeren combined for 36 of the bench's season-high 39 points and shot 15-of-21. Marnelle Garraud led the team with seven assists and three steals on top of six points.
Albany made things interesting in the second half as they came back from a 10-point deficit at halftime to take a 49-45 lead. The Great Danes at one point hit seven straight shots - four of which were 3-pointers. With BC still trailing by four later in the period, Garraud's lone trifecta started a 9-2 run that gave BC a 56-53 edge going into the final frame.
The Great Danes stayed within striking distance until the Eagles pulled away over the final 2:58 of the game thanks to an 11-3 run. The defense held UA scoreless for 2:39 during the surge while five different players scored.
BC took a 41-31 lead into the half following a 25-point second quarter. The Eagles scored the first 16 points of the frame after hitting six straight shots.
The offense got off to a slow start by shooting 37.5 percent, which led to a 19-16 UA advantage. The Eagles shot 59.4 percent over the final three periods.
BC scored 42 of its points in the paint and 26 points off 25 UA turnovers.
Grace Heeps and Helene Haegerstrand led the Great Danes with 17 and 15 points, respectively.
BC returns to action on Thursday in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge against Penn State inside Conte Forum at 6 p.m.
