October 30, 2021 | Men's Hockey
BURLINGTON, Vt. – Trevor Kuntar buried a one-timer with 3:19 left in the third period on Saturday night at Gutterson Fieldhouse to lift No. 9 Boston College to a 3-2 Hockey East victory over Vermont.
Â
The Eagles moved back above .500 both overall and in the league at 4-3-1 (2-1-0 HEA) while securing four points over the weekend in Burlington. The Catamounts fell to 1-5-0 (1-1-0 HEA).
Â
Jack McBain scored a pair of power play goals for BC, extending his career-high point streak to eight games to begin his senior season. Drew Helleson assisted on both of McBain's power play goals for a multi-point night.
Â
UVM opened the scoring at 14:53 of the first period, capitalizing on a power play with a netfront tip from Simon Jellus.
McBain answered with 54 seconds left in the frame, redirecting a left wing shot from Helleson with his skate at the right post. Vermont followed McBain's tally by quickly regaining the lead on a rebound with just 1.3 seconds left in the first.
Â
Midway through the second, McBain tipped another Helleson shot blocker side past Tyler Harmon (28 saves) from the low slot to knot the score at 2-2. Brandon Kruse posted his second assist of the series on the play.
Â
The Eagles dominated possession in the third period and finally broke through for their first lead when Eamon Powell swung a centering pass to Kuntar from the left corner. Kuntar's heavy one-timer beat Harmon glove side as Colby Ambrosio collected the second assist.
Â
BC once again heavily out-shot UVM 31-13, including a 10-2 edge in the third period. Eric Dop stopped 11 of the 13 shots he faced for his third win of the season.
Â
Boston College faces Merrimack in a home-and-home series next weekend, beginning at Lawler Rink on Friday night at 7 p.m.
