RALEIGH, N.C. – Boston College fell 1-0 to NC State in double overtime on a Luke Hille winner in the 108th minute on Friday night in the regular season finale for both teams at Dail Soccer Field.
The Wolfpack improved to 7-7-2 (1-5-2 ACC) following its first ACC win, while the Eagles fell to 6-6-2 (2-4-2 ACC). BC earns the No. 9 seed in the ACC Tournament and will travel to No. 8 seed Virginia Tech next Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The first half went back and forth with the Wolfpack out-shooting the Eagles 6-1 and gaining a 7-0 advantage on corner kicks. Stefan Sigurdarson recorded the lone shot in the first half for the Eagles in the 41st minute, but it sailed wide right.
The Eagles' Brennan Klein kept the score knotted at zero early in the second half when he denied a shot by the Wolfpack's Pablo Pendregosa. That marked one of Klein's five second-half saves to send the game to overtime.
Boston College managed four second-half shots, but Wolfpack keeper Leon Krapf kept the Eagles at bay with two saves in 108 minutes of play. Sam White was issued a red card in the 81st minute, leaving BC with only 10 mean.
In extra time, Klein (7 saves) made a beautiful diving save on a penalty kick in the 103rd minute, diving with full extension to his left. Five minutes later, Hille received a cross at the edge of the 6-yard box and buried a header into the bottom right corner.
