
Eagles Complete Weekend Sweep with 3-1 Win at Merrimack

Cayla Barnes, Olivia Finocchiaro and Jillian Fey scored while Kelly Pickreign made 18 saves
NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Cayla Barnes, Olivia Finocchiaro and Jillian Fey scored while Kelly Pickreign made 18 saves for the win as the eighth-ranked Boston College women's hockey team topped Merrimack, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon at Lawler Rink.
Barnes potted her first of the year late in the opening stanza for the 1-0 lead at the first break. Finocchiaro then found her second of the season – and the eventual game-winning goal – 6:33 into the middle frame before Fey potted her fifth eight minutes later.
Merrimack pulled a goal back late in the third, but the BC defense killed off a penalty and the extra-attacker over the final 75 seconds.
The Eagles held the 32-19 lead in shots on goal while going 0-for-3 on the power play and keeping Merrimack 0-for-6. Pickreign finished with 18 saves for BC while Emma Gorski stopped 29 for Merimmack.

- 1st, 19:06 | 1-0, BC GOAL: Alexie Guay fed Cayla Barnes in the neutral zone on the right wing, and Barnes carried the puck into the right circle where she faked a shot to get around the defender and then put the puck inside the near post.
- 2nd, 6:33| 2-0, BC GOAL: Savannah Norcross and Olivia Finocchiaro entered the zone with a 2-on-1 advantage, with Finocchiaro finishing off the final pass just up and off from the left post.
- 2nd, 14:51 | 3-0, BC GOAL: From deep in the BC zone, Maddie Crowley-Cahill banked a shot off the glass to the far blue line. Jillian Fey beat two Warriors to the puck and then drove to the net, shoveling a one-handed, backhand shot five-hole as a defender converged.
- 3rd, 15:40 | 3-1, MC GOAL: Grace Karunakar took a wrist shot from the right point that Courtney Maud tipped high, over the right shoulder of Kelly Pickreign.
- BC now holds a 18-1-0 mark in the all-time series with Merrimack … the Eagles have a mark of 8-1-0 at Lawler Rink … head coach Katie Crowley is now 18-1-0 in her career against the Warriors
- Hannah Bilka and Olivia Finocchiaro led the Eagles with four shots on goal apiece.
- Hadley Hartmetz and Cayla Barnes both blocked four shots while Maegan Beres blocked three…the Eagles had 17 blocked shots as a team.
- The Eagles have now won three consecutive games for the first time since October 2019 … those three consecutive wins were part of a season-opening 9-0-1 run.
- Over the last three seasons, BC is 7-1-0 when Jillian Fey scores a goal and 14-2-0 when she has at least one point.

- BC finished the two-game weekend with eight different goal scorers … 13 different players have now registered at least one goal this season.
