January 03, 2021 | Women's Basketball
Freshman Ally VanTimmeren scored 10 in her collegiate debut
RALEIGH, N.C. - No. 3/3 NC State remained undefeated on the season as the Wolfpack defeated visiting Boston College 76-57 Sunday afternoon at Reynolds Coliseum. The Wolfpack moved to 10-0 overall and 5-0 in ACC play while the Eagles dropped to 4-4 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
NC State center Elissa Cunane led all scorers in Sunday's game with 24 points on 9-of-9 shooting while adding eight rebounds.
"We played hard and we played with our hearts for the majority of the game," said Boston College head coach Joanna Bernabei-McNamee after the game. "I just don't think we always played smart out there, especially when we're playing the number three team in the country. I thought NC State played physical, played hard and they also played smart."
Juniors Taylor Soule and Cameron Swartz led BC in scoring with 14 points each.
Freshman Ally VanTimmeren made her Boston College debut after graduating early from high school in December. The Michigan native contributed 10 points and six rebounds, and drained two three-point field goals for the Eagles.
It was an impressive debut for VanTimmeren, who just arrived on campus December 26.
It was a strongly contested opening frame as the score was 21-17 in favor of the Wolfpack after one quarter of play. The Eagles were 3-of-5 from three-point range in the first quarter. Junior Makayla Dickens and Soule led BC in scoring with four points each.
The Wolfpack outscored the Eagles 17-12 in the second quarter to extend their lead to 38-29 at the half. NC State took the nine-point lead into the locker room as the Wolfpack shot 50% from the field in the first half.
The Eagles were unable to gain any ground in the second half of the contest as they were outscored 38-28 after the break, despite forcing 10 fourth quarter turnovers.
Swartz and Soule combined for 16 points in the final 20 minutes for the Eagles.
Boston College is back in action on Thursday, January 7 versus Notre Dame at Conte Forum. The game tips at 8 p.m. with live coverage on ACC Network.
