Brianna Thomas and Shelby Boyle join staff as graduate assistants
Boston College women's basketball head coach Joanna Bernabei-McNamee has announced that Brianna Thomas and Shelby Boyle have joined the staff as graduate assistants.
"I am excited to have Bri and Shelby join our basketball family. They bring grit, passion and youthful energy to the program. I am looking forward to helping them grow and pursue their dreams in the coaching profession,'' said Bernabei-McNamee about her two new staff members.
A native of Ajex, Ontario, Canada, Thomas arrives at the Heights after serving as an assistant coach at Merrimack in 2019-20, where she was vital in the first 20-win season at the Division 1 level for the program.Â

Thomas was responsible for daily operations, film breakdown and scouting reports along with player development. She worked closely with Denia Davis-Stewart, who finished her senior season as the Northeast Conference Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. Davis-Stewart averaged 18.5 points and 13.6 rebounds a game. She also posted 23 double-doubles and set a new single-season conference record with 121 blocks on the season.
Prior to working with the Warriors, Thomas was on staff at her alma mater Duquesne University. She was responsible for the film exchange, individual workouts and assisting in the recruiting process. Thomas was on staff as the Dukes advanced to their first WNIT Sweet 16.
As a player, Thomas was a two-time team captain and helped the Dukes advance to the 2016 NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.
She graduated in 2016 with a degree in psychology and a master's in leadership in 2019. Thomas is enrolled in Woods College of Advancing Studies at Boston College.
Boyle joins women's basketball program upon graduating from Transylvania University in May of 2020.
A native of Morgantown, West Virginia, Boyle was a four-year starter for the women's basketball team at Transylvania. A team captain, Boyle averaged 14.6 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.3 assists as the Pioneers went 25-3 in 2019-20. In her four years, Boyle helped the Pioneers to a 93-20 record, win two Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Regular Season and Tournament Championships as well as advance to the 2019 Division III NCAA Sweet 16.
A two-time All-HCAC first team honoree, Boyle attended the 2020 WBCA "So You Want To Be A Coach" program and has worked as an instructor at Eastern Kentucky Women's Basketball Elite Camp. She has also worked as an instructor at the Point Guard College and the Nike Shooting and Skills Camp in Kentucky.
Boyle is enrolled in Woods College of Advancing Studies at Boston College.
