14 Former Eagles Begin Stanley Cup Quest This Weekend

Boston College holds the NCAA record with 20 names on the Stanley Cup
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – A total of 14 former Boston College men's hockey players begin their quest for a title when the 2020 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs begin this weekend in Toronto and Edmonton. BC's total playoff participants rank top-5 among all Division I programs.
Kevin Hayes (Philadelphia), Zach Sanford (St. Louis), Alex Tuch (Vegas) and Patrick Brown (Vegas) will compete in a round robin tournament among the top-4 seeds in each conference. The remaining 10 players will face off in a best-of-5 qualification round. Sanford and Tuch, who were classmates at BC from 2014-16, will face one another next Thursday (Aug. 6) in Edmonton.

Boston College holds the NCAA record with 20 names on the Stanley Cup. A former Eagle has hoisted Lord Stanley in each of the last four seasons: Brian Dumoulin (Pittsburgh • 2016, 2017), Brooks Orpik (Washington • 2018), and Sanford (St. Louis • 2019).

BC had 20 different players appear in the NHL during the 2019-20 regular season, which was tied for first in college hockey. Over the last decade, the Eagles lead the nation in cumulative alumni who have reached the NHL level.
Paul Carey (Boston), Steve Santini (Nashville) and Oliver Wahlstrom (NY Islanders) also earned spots on NHL Summer Camp rosters ahead of the postseason.Â
