Hannah Bilka Voted Hockey East Rookie of the Year

Hannah Bilka was voted Hockey East’s top first-year player by the conference coaches.
NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Boston College freshman forward Hannah Bilka was named the Hockey East Pro Ambition's Rookie of the Year on Friday night, being voted the league's top first-year player by the conference coaches.

Bilka, who was named to the all-rookie squad and a Second Team All-Star honoree earlier this week, led all Hockey East rookies in conference scoring with 30 points on 11 goals and 19 assists – a number that also ranked fourth overall in the league. Bilka also led conference rookies in overall scoring during the regular season, racking up 35 points on 13 goals and 22 assists. Her 19 assists in conference games tied for second among all players in the league while her three game-winning goals tied for first. She added seven power-play points in conference play with four goals and three assists, second most for first-year players.

During the regular season, she led all rookies in the country in total points per game (1.13) and assists per game (0.71) and tied for first in shots on goal (126). Bilka's 10 total multi-point games ranked second in the nation among rookies while her four three-plus point outings tied for first overall among rookies. She was one of two league rookies to notch a short-handed goal this season and the lone rookie to record a hat trick. Bilka factored in to five game-winning goals for BC in league games, scoring three of them while also assisting on two others, with her three game-winning goals tying for second nationally and first in Hockey East among rookies.

The Coppell, Texas product had 10 multi-point games, three multi-goal games and five multi-assist outings on the year. Her nine multi-point outings in conference play tied for third overall and led all first-year players. She put together a nine-game point streak from Sept. 28 to Nov. 2 and recorded the program's 10th-ever four-goal game in a win over Holy Cross on Oct. 3. Bilka added a goal in the Hockey East Tournament quarterfinals to end her first year of collegiate hockey with 36 points (14-22-36). The Eagles went 8-0-1 this season when she scored a goal and 14-4-3 when she had at least one point.

She was named the AHCA National Rookie of the Month for October and also took home one Hockey East Player of the Week honor, one Rookie of the Week honor and was named the October Rookie of the Month. Bilka, who was a unanimous selection to the Pro Ambitions All-Rookie Team, was the lone first-year player to earn a spot on the second or first all-star teams this season.

Bilka is the sixth Hockey East Rookie of the Year in program history. She is the fifth Eagle to earn the award with Katie Crowley as head coach, with all six having come with Crowley on staff.
