Garraud's 21 Points Leads Eagles Over Clemson, 85-73

BC to play No. 3 Duke at 8 p.m. on Friday
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Sophomore Marnelle Garraud scored a season-high 21 points, had six rebounds and five assists to lead No. 6 Boston College past No. 14 Clemson, 85-73, at the Greensboro Coliseum on Thursday night in the second round game of the ACC Tournament.
Boston College will play No. 3 Duke in the quarterfinals on Friday night at 8 p.m.
The Eagles (19-11) held Clemson's leading scorer Kobi Thornton to just eight points after she had a career-high 27 in the first round win over Miami on Wednesday.
BC pulled away with a 9-0 run early in the fourth quarter behind back-to-back three-pointers from sophomore Cameron Swartz. Her second three of the quarter gave BC an 11 point lead with eight minutes to play.
Clemson (8-23) cut the lead to five points but Garraud hit her fourth three-pointer with just over four minutes to play for an eight point lead. Garraud and Taylor Soule would combine for 7-for-8 from the foul line in the final minutes to put the game away.
Along with Garraud, sophomore Taylor Soule pitched in with 18 points on as she hit 12-of-14 from the foul line. Georgia Pineau pitched in with 14 points, while Cameron Swartz added 11 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- A 7-0 run before the first media timeout gave BC a 12-8 lead. Garraud had a three-pointer and Emma Guy hit two layups. Despite a slow start for the offense, BC led 15-12 after the first quarter.
-Boston College shot 7-for-10 in the second quarter and hit 14-of-15 from the foul line to take a 44-34 lead at the half. Taylor Soule made 8-for-8 from the line in the quarter and led BC with 12 points and two assists. Sophomore Marnelle Garraud had 10 points with a team-high five boards. BC shot 44.8 percent and had five steals in the half. Clemson shot 46 percent but had 11 turnovers in the half.
-The Eagles gave the 10 point halftime lead back as Clemson opened up with a 15-5 run to tie the game, 49-49, at 4:51 in the quarter. A Pineau layup ended the two minute scoring drought by BC. She then hit a jumper and layup as BC took a 55-49 lead with 3:45 to play. Pineau would score 10 points in the quarter as BC held a 61-57 lead after three quarters.
- Cameron Swartz and Marnelle Garraud each hit a three-pointer as BC went on a 9-0 run and took a 70-59 lead two minutes into the fourth quarter. Clemson responded and cut the lead to five points on a jumper by Shania Meertens with just over six minutes to play.
- The Eagles went up 10 after a three-pointer from Garraud followed by a jumper from Pineau. BC hit 7-of-8 foul shots in the final two minutes to seal the win.
GAMENOTES
- This was the first ACC win for the Eagles since the 2016 tournament. Boston College was ranked 14th and upset No. 11 Virginia Tech, 49-37.
- BC is now 7-14 in the ACC Tournament.
- In 2010, Boston College won two straight to advance to the quarterfinal. The Eagles defeated Virginia Tech and No. 2 Florida State before falling to NC State.
- Senior Georgia Pineau had 14 points off the bench and four boards. She needs just one point to reach the 1,000 career mark.
- Boston College will play Duke on Friday at 8. The Blue Devils defeated BC, 85-73, on December 6. Haley Gorecki led Duke with 27 points, while Taylor Soule had 22 points and Makayla Dickens added 16.
