Biele Breaks Program Record with Top-5 EISA Finish
February 04, 2020 | Skiing
CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine – Co-captain Parker Biele posted the highest EISA finish ever by a Boston College skier over the weekend, earning fourth overall in the giant slalom at the Colby Carnival on Sugarloaf Mountain.
Biele registered the fourth-fastest time in the first run and retained her position for the Eagles' first top-5 in EISA history. The junior previously placed 14th in the GS at the season-opening Harvard Carnival, which was the highest finish for a female skier since Jessica Hult took sixth in the slalom at the 1995 EISA Championships.
Biele was not alone in having a great weekend. The BC women finished sixth out of 13 teams in the giant slalom with Sophia Staudenmayer (28) also finishing in the scoring. In the slalom, the women had a strong day with four finishers: Staudenmayer (32), Biele (32), co-captain Madeline Davis (48) and Gigi Kranjc (50).
Â
The men's squad also had four skiers finish in the slalom and placed eighth overall as a team. Sophomore Trent Gutstein continued to lead the charge with an impressive 17th place finish in the league for his second top-20 of the season.Â
Freshman Will Kornya had a terrific day finishing 22nd in just his third EISA race. Men's captain Chris Bertram (32) and Spencer Wright (35) also had solid performances in the slalom.
Wright was the top male for the Eagles in the giant slalom, moving into the top-30 with a 25th place. Bertram was right behind Wright with 32nd.
Â
"It was a great weekend for BC skiing," said head coach Chuck Carmone. "Obviously Parker's historic race was terrific, but I was equally as excited to have eight strong finishes in the slalom. I think collectively, as a team, we can continue to move up as we gain experience and confidence and believe in ourselves."
