February 25, 2020 | Women's Hockey
Cayla Barnes, Megan Keller, Alex Carpenter and Emily Matheson will look to lead the U.S. to its sixth consecutive gold medal.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Current Boston College women's hockey player Cayla Barnes and three alumnae have been named to the U.S. National Team roster that will compete at the 2020 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Women's World Championships in Halifax and Truro, Nova Scotia.
Barnes will join Megan Keller '19, Emily Matheson '15 and Alex Carpenter '16 on the 23-player roster that will take part in the tournament, which is slated for March 31-April 10.
All four Eagles were members of the U.S. squad that won a fifth-consecutive gold medal at the 2019 IIHF World Championships in Finland. Carpenter has been a member of all five of those gold-medal winning squads while it was the fourth medal for both Keller and Matheson. Barnes captured her first gold in what was her World Championships debut. Barnes, Keller and Pfalzer were also members of the U.S. squad that claimed gold at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games while Carpenter earned a silver medal with the U.S. at the 2014 games.
The 2020 World Championships will begin on March 31, with the gold-medal game taking place on April 10. The U.S. has won the last five IIHF Women's World Championships and captured the top prize a total of nine times (2005, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019), including eight of the last nine tournaments. The U.S. schedule for the 2020 IIHF Women's World Championship is available here. All games will be broadcast live in the U.S. on NHL Network
