February 17, 2020 | Men's Hockey
WAKEFIELD, Mass. – After combining for 15 points in a 3-0-0 week for Boston College, rookie first round NHL draft picks Alex Newhook and Matt Boldy both earned Hockey East weekly awards on Monday. Newhook was named Player of the Week, while Boldy received Rookie of the Week honors.
Newhook finished the week with team-best eight points on four goals and four assists with a plus-6 rating. He posted a five-point performance in Saturday's 6-2 win over Merrimack at Kelley Rink, BC's first five-point game since Johnny Gaudreau and Kevin Hayes both accomplished the feat on Jan. 18, 2014.
Newhook extended his career-high goal and point streaks to six games. The Newfoundland native ranks second nationally among freshmen in goals (16) and points (32). He is also tied for the NCAA lead among rookies with 10 multi-point games, six of which have come in his last 11 contests.
Boldy had seven points last week, including a pair of three-point efforts and his first career multi-goal game. He had a goal and two assists in a 7-2 victory over No. 18 Harvard on Monday in the 68th Beanpot and was plus-4 at home against Merrimack on Saturday with two goals and an assist.
The Millis native ranks eighth among Hockey East rookies in assists per game and is tied for 10th in points per game. Boldy had just one point in his first 11 NCAA games, but is averaging a point per game over his last 17 contests. He is currently riding a career-best five-game point streak.
No. 6 Boston College (19-8-1, 12-6-0 HEA) is tied for first in Hockey East with UMass as it prepares for a home-and-home against No. 10 Northeastern. The series begins on Thursday night (Feb. 20) at Matthews Arena on NESN and concludes on Friday (Feb. 21) at Kelley Rink on NESN and NESNplus (during Bruins coverage).
