Boston College Takes Second at Beanpot
February 12, 2020 | Fencing
Both the men's and women's teams finished second in the annual meet.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College fencing team competed in the Beanpot Tournament on Wednesday night, hosting MIT, Harvard and Brandeis in the annual tournament at the Margot Connell Recreation Center. Both the men's and women's squad earned second place finishes.
COACH'S CORNER
"Both teams had some exceptional moments today," said head coach Brendan Doris-Pierce. "The men's team was caught a bit flat footed by a very capable and competitive MIT team but rallied nicely in the next rounds. The women's team continually refuses to back down from any fight and is competitive with any squad in the nation because of their fight and how well the women's epee team has been fencing. Now, we take a couple days to rest up and refuel and then prepare for ACCs."
MEN'S RESULTS
-The sabre squad picked up a win over Brandeis with Spencer Kuldell leading the way on the night with a mark of 5-4 … Bolang Meng defeated Harvard's Mitchell Saron, who is first in the U-20 World rankings.
-The foil squad went 14-13 ... Bin Huang's mark of 6-3 led the foil squad, with the trio of Brian Wang, Huang and Justin Herman earning wins over Brandeis and MIT.
-The Eagles' epee squad went 14-13 and defeated Brandeis … Thomas Junseo Park and Will Smith both finished the night with 6-3 records
